Now, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is under construction in the Expo Park area of Los Angeles. However, this was not the original intended location of the museum. It was first established in 2014, and San Francisco is said to be its home, as it is also the location of Lucasfilm and Skywalker Ranch. After the fall of San Francisco, they set their sights on Chicago as their new home. That didn’t happen due to counterproductive from the Chicago-based environmental group Friends of the Parks.
In 2017, they secured their current location in Los Angeles and could break ground next year. Everything seemed to be going well, and then… the pandemic happened, which of course put a huge strain on every aspect of people’s lives. That includes major construction projects. Although things have opened up about last year, the supply chain is still limited and the vision for the museum is still evolving. Based on CHEAPConstruction “is currently focused on adding panels that will cover the building, along with tree planting in the extensive park grounds.”
While I would love to be able to visit the Lucas Museum tomorrow, I hope that all the time they are spending building it will make for a great experience for people like me who want to appreciate it. High artwork on display. Obviously, a lot of interest is being put into this project, and if it takes until 2025 to experience it, so be it.
