George Shapiro passes away: Seinfeld producer and talent manager dies at 91

The producer of the hit comedy Seinfeld and the star’s manager George Shapiro died of natural causes at his Beverly Hills home.

George Shapiro passed away of natural causes at the age of 91.

Seinfeld producer and manager for a host of stars including Andy Kaufman, Jerry Seinfeld and Carl Reiner died at his home in Beverly Hills on Thursday, according to Deadline.

No further details have yet to be announced.

In addition to running her own talent agency and managing a number of big names, Shapiro is also known as a producer of hit TV shows.

Among the people he was in – as well as Seinfeld – included The Steve Allen Show, That Girl and Gomer Pyle.

As well as a producer on the Seinfeld comedy series, Shapiro has curated the star comics and produced some of his popular specials.

These include things like the Netflix show Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill.

His last work was The Super Bob Einstein Movie which was released on HBO last year.

After news of his passing, stars as well as fans took to social media to share their condolences.

Among them was veteran producer Norman Lear, writing on Twitter: “One of the dearest people I have ever known, George Shapiro, has just passed away.

“I bless our friendship and at 99, I’m sure I’ll see him again relatively soon.”

He also shared a photo of the couple together.

Another user also tweeted: “It cannot be overstated how well this guy has made his mark in nurturing comedy.

“You see the vanity card ‘Shapiro/West’ on something and you know you’re getting the real ‘row’… Oh my gosh, we’re losing them at a really fast rate, aren’t we?”

A third wrote: “I am heartbroken. George is simply one of the most caring human beings and he will certainly be missed.”

And the fourth part reads: “RIP for George Shapiro, who started in the mailroom at William Morris and went on to be Managers Carl Reiner, Jerry Seinfeld and Andy Kaufmann. He’s also Seinfeld Executive Producer.”

Shapiro is survived by his lifelong friend and mother, Melody, his son Danny, daughters Carrie and Stefanie, and his five grandchildren.
