Jesse Limbo-gard

Jesse Lingard has been left in limbo over football after his proposal to move to Newcastle was broken, NEIL CUSTIS writes.

Lingard, whose contract expires at the end of the season, wants a loan deal to Saint James’ Park until the end of the season but the Old Trafford side want a permanent move.

Newcastle have proposed a deal worth £3m at the end of the season plus a further £4m if the relegation-threatened club stay.

However, United want at least a £10m deal by the end of the season if no permanent offer is made.

The 29-year-old hasn’t started a Premier League game since New Year’s Day and just twice all season.

Less than a week ago, manager Ralf Rangnick was asked about his position and seemed to suggest the player could leave if the situation is right..

Rangnick said: “What I can say is that he is a very good player, a technical player, of course, he can play at many clubs in the Premier League on a regular basis.

“Here at Manchester United it’s not that easy, we have other players who can play in that position too and we can’t change from game to game in five or six positions.

“I know his contract expires in the summer, the question is what does he want to do?

But I wouldn’t be happy if he stayed until the end of the season. “
