Australia: Bronze whale shark bites fishing boat engine

Hair-raising footage has emerged of a 10ft shark biting down on the engine of a boat.

Earlier this week, Captain Matt Zen went to Coral Bay in Perth, Australia, with his friends for the annual fishing trip – but they had no idea what was coming.

For about an hour, the group battled a three-meter bronze shark they caught when things took an unexpected turn.

In a video shared on Instagram, the giant monster – also known as a bronze whale – can be seen moving through the water at the end of the boat when it suddenly bites hard on the ship’s engine.

The shark refused to leave the boat’s engine

“The shark attacked our boat! It clung to the propeller and wouldn’t let go,” Matt wrote in the post, as reported by Daily Star.

“He’s a monster, he’s choked the engine,” one of the crew shouted in terror.

“Oh my gosh, that’s crazy.”

The predator remained in place for a while before the crew became worried and tried to save the shark.

Matt, of Fever Fishing said: “After five minutes of lifting and releasing the engine, it finally managed to swim.

“We hooked it up and it finally overcame the taste of the engine. It was a relief to see the serrated creature let go of the engine and swam back into the depths.”

Jarryd England, one of the fishermen, recalled the incident and told 9News that the shark “basically inhaled the whole propeller”.

Both the copper shark and the boat were unharmed in the incident.

Two weeks ago, also in Australia, a paddler came up close with a hungry tiger shark when he discovered he was getting in the way of the predator while it was hunting a sea turtle.

Brodie Moss captured the moment the sea monster jumped out of the water and took a big bite out of his paddle board.

The sudden force pushed Brodie off the board and he fell into the water, but fortunately he was unharmed in the nail biting incident.

“This tiger shark and this turtle – big confrontation, and I’m in a tough spot,” he can be heard saying in a video.
