Arsenal target Matheus Nunes has been backed to excel in Premier League by former Gunner Gilberto Silva.
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after players across Europe following his rapid rise in Portugal.
Arsenal is among those linked to the 23-year-old, who helped Sporting win the league last term.
Gilberto has been an influence commanding midfield for a long time with the Gunners, who knows exactly what it takes to succeed in England’s top flight.
Nunes has recently received great praise from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, despite playing in a team that was beaten 5-0 in Champions League.
Gilberto has now closely followed Guardiola’s lead and favors the Sporting star cutting it if he moves to England.

“The Premier League is the toughest championship in the world, due to the quality of the players and teams and where the coaches are considered the best in the world.
“And when praise comes from Pep Guardiola, the world stops to listen and the attention is doubled. And if Pep says so, it’s because he understands that Matheus Nunes can reach that level.
“I hope to see Matheus Nunes again in the Premier League soon.”
After the recent Champions League clash between City and Sporting, Guardiola told reporters: “Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world right now.”
Nunes is linked with moving to Everton returned in the summer but was not interested in moving to England when asked about the rumours.
He said before: “Honestly the only thing that came to me was the interest of Everton but nothing happened while I was on holiday.
“And my agent knows that I don’t want to be so distracted while I’m relaxing and recuperating.

“There were rumors about Everton, but in the meantime I’m back and nothing else has happened.”
Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been Arsenal’s pair in midfield this season.
Sambi Lokonga was also acquired over the summer and operates as another option.
Xhaka’s future has long been a source of speculation and the Swiss midfielder has hinted at a move to Roma before the season even begins.
Any departure from Emirates could force Mikel Arteta to react in the market, which could see Nunes name again
