Gillian Keegan: Chichester MP’s Twitter account appears to have been hacked

An MP’s Twitter account was apparently hacked after their profile picture was changed to one of Elon Musk.

Gillian Keegan’s Twitter account was seen responding to tweets and sharing a link for a range of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Dogecoin.

While the Chichester MP’s banner remained the same, tweets impersonating Ms Keegan included links to a website promoting the online currency.

All mentions of Ms Keegan in her Twitter bio, photo and banner have now been removed.

In a tweet replying to YouTuber Mr. Beast, Keegan’s account wrote, “Don’t let it escape! It is going to be great!”

In another reply to optician Specsavers, those who own the viral cryptocurrency Dogecoin, once endorsed by new Twitter owner Elon Musk, were described as “a #dogecoin warrior fighting for the future”.

The education minister’s account was apparently hacked just before 7.30pm on Christmas Day, when the tweets began to appear.

Tweets promoting the cryptocurrency were broadcast throughout the evening and into the early hours of Boxing Day.

The Chichester MP’s office has been contacted for comment.
