Successfully raising three energetic boys ages eight and under while pursuing careers as podcasters, writers, and performers would throw a less grounded individual than Giovanna Fletcher.
But the 37-year-old I’m A Celebrity winner, who celebrates her 10th wedding anniversary to McFly star Tom next month, is taking it all with her unwavering, upbeat stride.
“To be honest, there’s a lot of juggling,” says the best-selling author.
“We’re fortunate that most of the things we do are from home, but it’s very much a group effort.
“Tom’s family is with us so we have a great support network around us and without that we couldn’t do it.”
Despite being outnumbered in the Fletcher’s hectic household, Giovanna has no plans to correct the gender imbalance in the family.
“When I was pregnant with Max for the third time and we found out he was a boy, I thought, ‘Wonderful.’
“No part of me was like, ‘Oh, what a shame.’
“I’m really lucky to have three healthy kittens and we have a female cat named Leia who is definitely on my side.”
‘G’ and McFly frontman Tom share their £2.5million family home in north London with sons Buzz, eight, Buddy, six, and Max, three.
And when their youngest started preschool this year, the Fletcher household had a reassuring calm after eight years of diaper changes and sleepless nights.
She said: “Me and Tom came home and we just sat there and listened to the fridge humming.
“As you can imagine, having three boys is a noisy affair. They’re always jumping and swinging at anything they can swing at.”
Parenthood certainly wasn’t always easy for Giovanna, and she admits it was her early struggles that inspired her podcast.
“The whole Happy Mum podcast actually came down to me being really unhappy,” she explains.
“I really struggled with breastfeeding, and all I can remember is Emma Willis saying to me, ‘You know, you don’t have to do this. You must remember that the most important thing is your sanity. Happy mom, happy baby”.
“And that little sentence stuck with me.”
Giovanna’s podcast is now in its ninth episode, featuring some of the world’s most famous moms – and dads.
But of all her celebrity guests, two stand out.
“Davina McCall was so wise. And when Amanda Holden spoke about the loss of her son Theo, who was stillborn when she was seven months pregnant, it was just the most humbling experience.”
Giovanna’s most famous guest was the Duchess of Cambridge, who spoke openly about the guilt she felt at being separated from her children.
“I couldn’t believe she said yes,” admits Giovanna. “We ended up talking for an hour and a half and it confirmed exactly what the podcast was about that I knew it was. And that’s the fact that it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do; so much motherhood is a universal thing.”
The relationship with Giovanna is central to Giovanna’s appeal and that’s why she triumphed on I’m A Celebrity in 2020. And after seeing Tom on Strictly Come Dancing last year, she hasn’t ruled out following him onto the dance floor.
“I’ve never been tempted to do it before, but to see Tom’s love for it, maybe one day.”
But one environment Giovanna feels more than safe in is the kitchen. And she’s partnered with Ocado to help launch her Disney-inspired School of Magical Mealtimes to encourage kids to get more involved with cooking at home.
“I think it’s important to encourage healthy eating habits in kids and using different characters like Moiana, 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King is a great way to engage kids and it’s definitely worked for me.”
