Girl, 15, jailed for 5 years after killing ‘talented’ musician in sick knife attack

A schoolgirl who killed a talented musician has been locked up for five years after she admitted to manslaughter by mitigation.

The 15-year-old murdered Nimroy Kendricks, 24, in Crawley, West Sussex, and was arrested by police.

Along with the prison sentence, she will also have to get an additional four years on her license renewal.

The girl, who lives in Crawley, cannot be named for legal reasons.

A Sussex Police spokesman said tonight: “She appeared in court last July charged with murder following an investigation by the Surrey and Sussex Main Crime Team.

“However, the defense medical professionals and the prosecution all agree that at the time of the crime, the defendant was suffering from significant mental abnormalities, so Crown accepted the charge of manslaughter on the grounds that he was relieved of responsibility. .

“She was subsequently re-investigated for a pre-sentence report.”

Mr Hendricks tragically died in Russell Way, Crawley, after being found with a stab wound to the chest on October 27, 2020.

Nimroy, who was called Nim by family and friends, and the girl were acquainted.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme from the Surrey and Sussex Main Crime Squad said: “The death of Nimroy Hendricks is heartbreaking and the whole plot of this case is both complex and tragic.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Nim’s loss.

“Admission to the manslaughter plea has been made based on all available evidence from expert witnesses and only after careful examination and discussion among attorneys, CPS, police and family.” by Nim.

“I know that the Nim family will never get over the traumatic loss of a man who was always peaceful, selfless and caring.

“He was a gifted musician who loved life, and his death was the tragic result of a knife taken from home, in his hand, and a place it should never have been.

“Those brief moments had an incalculable impact on so many people who loved Nim, and many others who heard his story and despaired of another knife-related death.

“If you have information about individuals or groups carrying knives in Sussex or anywhere, please report it to the police and stop another family from suffering the unimaginable pain that your loss has suffered. Nim caused.”
