Clessnn Crawford, two years old, died from a police bullet in a Texas hostage situation where her mother was gunned down by her father, who later turned the gun on himself
A two-year-old girl was tragically killed by armed police in a tense standoff with a father who was holding his family hostage, resulting in a total of three deaths.
Clessnn Crawford was killed, as was her mother, Taylor Shutte, who tried to escape from a trailer home in Kansas but was gunned down by her husband Eli Crawford on March 26.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KSI) believes that Eli Crawford then shot himself.
The tragedy happened when police were called to the Cherokee County home around 7:15 p.m. after receiving an 911 call from a woman asking for help with a “domestic disturbance.”
Police then knocked on the trailer’s door, where Eli Crawford opened the door before slamming it shut.
At that point, two-year-old Clessnn opened the door, the ASI said, and her mother attempted to escape.
“Crawford then got out and shot Shutte. He also began shooting at the four responding officers,” the KSI said in a statement.
The father then fired over 90 shots at police, who had received reinforcements, including from the Joplin Police Department’s SWAT team.
Authorities said: “Around 9:25 p.m., a police officer fired a round into the trailer.
“Officials approached the residence and found Eli Crawford, who had died from a gunshot wound.
“Shutte and Clessnn Crawford were also found deceased from fatal gunshot wounds. No police officers were injured in the incident.”
Afterwards, it was revealed that Clessnn had died from a police bullet.
“The investigation shows that 2-year-old Clessnn Crawford died as a result of the single bullet fired by a Joplin Police Department officer,” the KSI said.

“The investigation is ongoing. We ask for the public’s patience while KBI agents finish their work. The incident is being thoroughly and independently investigated.
“Once it is complete, the results will be presented to the Cherokee County Attorney to determine if criminal charges will be filed.”
Joplin Police Chief Sloan Rowland said it was a “horrible result” and offered his condolences.
“This is a horrific outcome of what had already begun as a very tragic incident,” he said, according to the Joplin Globe.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the affected families and the surrounding community. We ask you to pray for the victims and everyone involved.”
