Kim McManus, 40, and her daughter Autumn, five, were “heartbroken” after their holiday was cancelled.

A five-year-old girl has told her mother that her vacation nightmare has made her “never want to go on vacation again.”

Kim McManus, 40, from Widnes, Cheshire, was due to fly to Turkey on Friday for her daughter’s first holiday abroad.

They were told their flight was delayed for five hours due to overbooking while they were queuing at Manchester Airport. This is reported by the Liverpool Echo.

But less than an hour later, their package holiday was canceled entirely, and holiday provider TUI texted them this.

Mother-of-one Kim said her daughter Autumn was “so shocked” by the incident that she “broke down sobbing” after hearing her dream holiday had been cancelled.

Kim didn’t tell her daughter the entire holiday had been canceled immediately and said she spent a sleepless night dreading how she would be able to deliver the morning news.

“We had to arrive early due to traffic problems, then the flight was delayed about five hours,” Kim told ECHO.

“We were all queuing to get on the plane when they came up to everyone and said the flight had been overbooked by 13 people.

“Six people hadn’t turned up, so now seven people were too many.

“They asked people to volunteer not to fly, but with no guarantee of another flight next week.

“Nobody wanted to take that so we waited another hour and then they came on the intercom and said the cabin crew has now exceeded their allotted hours and so the flight would now be cancelled.

“I was so shocked. It’s my first vacation in seven years and it’s my little girl’s first vacation ever.

“She just broke down sobbing and said, ‘Please mom, please did you say there was only one more sleep.’

“She was just absolutely devastated.”

Kim said they were advised to go home or to a hotel and the airport told them they would receive full details for their new flight the following morning.

She added: “I left the airport and went home but within an hour they had texted everyone saying your flight has now been canceled and if you have booked a package holiday then your holiday has now been canceled too .

“After receiving this news, I was so shocked I couldn’t believe it.

“I thought they can’t do that, they can’t just cancel my whole holiday because they messed up a flight, especially when we haven’t seen a TUI representative the whole time.”

The distraught mother put her daughter to bed but said she couldn’t sleep because she was afraid to wake up and tell her daughter the trip had been cancelled.

She said: “I still don’t have an answer for my little girl. I don’t know why they canceled it, it was so cruel.

“It broke my heart, I cried to my own mother.”

A Tui spokesman said: “We would like to apologize for the inconvenience experienced by our customers on flight TOM856 from Manchester to Antalya on Friday 27 May.

“Unfortunately, we felt the impact on customers’ holidays was too great and made the difficult decision to cancel the flight.

“We have contacted affected customers as soon as we became aware of the change and all customers will receive a full refund within 14 days.

“We understand how disappointing and frustrating this is and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
