Glastonbury Festival-goers break mobile data record as thousands flock to social media

FESTIVAL-goers visiting this year’s Glastonbury used a record amount of mobile data as thousands shared photos and videos of their favorite acts, EE revealed.

The network said it saw a huge 76 percent increase in data usage compared to the last pre-Covid event in 2019.

In total, the company alone processed 182 terabytes of data.

That’s the equivalent of viewing 7.2 billion Instagram posts over the weekend, or downloading the Beatles hit Hey Jude 5.4 million.

Demand has skyrocketed as attendees increasingly share content from major events on social media.

EE, Glastonbury’s technology partner, also released a planning app for the festival.

5.6 million performances were added by users, the company said.

And the most popular turned out to be Diana Ross, determined by 53,000 fans.

The festival was also headlined by Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar.

A total of around 193,000 devices downloaded the app, 39,000 of them at home.

“With so many new and exciting ways for festival-goers to share their Glastonbury experiences with friends and family, it’s no wonder the demand for data increases every year,” said EE’s Pete Jeavons.

“This legendary festival is one of the most exciting places in the world for music fans and our data shows that people remain interested in using our technology to make the most of their time at Worthy Farm; it makes us all really proud to see how many people have benefited from the opportunity to plan their line-ups and meet their favorite artists.”
