GM is reportedly stopping providing replacement batteries for the Chevy Spark EV

According to a General Motors report, there will reportedly no longer be battery replacements for the all-electric version of the Chevy Spark EV resource (about InsideEV’s). The Chevy Spark electric vehicle (EV) was first released in 2013, and GM continued to make new models through 2016.
A GM district executive confirmed this EV resource that the company “will no longer deliver this [the Spark EV’s] Battery.” GM’s inventory of Spark EV battery packs is also reportedly exhausted, and the company has no plans to produce more. The edge reached out to GM for comment, but didn’t immediately receive a response.
Since the oldest Spark EV model is nearly 10 years old, vehicle owners may be left without a working car if their battery pack fails. GM is offering eight years/100,000 miles warranty specifically for the battery pack in his Spark EVs and other electric vehicleswhich means that Spark EVs released in 2013 and 2014 are already out of warranty (or about to be). as EV resource indicates whether GM is offering to buy the vehicle back instead of replacing the battery.
Spark EV owners may not have the best of luck finding an aftermarket battery pack either. EV resource notes that there really isn’t a market for Spark EV batteries compared to other electric vehicles, considering companies may not see value in providing parts for a car that’s on the cheaper side (the base 2016 model, sold at an MSRP of 2016). less than $26,000). Plus, GM just made it sell around 7,400 Spark EVs — primarily in California, Oregon, and Maryland — before the end of its three-year run.
That’s where GM is working Manufacturing and replacing battery packs in over 140,000 electric Chevy Bolts recalled last year due to fire risks, GM may just not have the bandwidth to create replacement batteries for the Spark EV. GM only Production of Bolt EVs resumed in early April after a production stop lasts several months and also recently announced its plans Discontinue the non-electric version of the Chevy Spark sometime this year.
