Good Morning Britain aired a clip of an empty chair today – as a Tory MP said he was “too busy” to appear on the programme.
It comes just a day after Sue Gray’s report on Partygate was finally made public, with a 37-page report that featured multiple bomb blasts from the inquiry as Boris Johnson arrived in the House of Commons to announce that he had been cleared. “vindicated” by the report as he told people it was time to “switch” away from Partygate.
Keir Starmer, however, was extremely critical of the Prime Minister and raged: “They set a lower standard for his conduct than a snake belly and now they expect us to congratulate him when he stumbles upon it. .”

However, it appeared unlikely that a Conservative MP would be able to speak on Good Morning Britain today, as hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard showed a shot of an empty chair against a Westminster backdrop.
“We’re going to have Labour’s Lisa Nandy coming up soon. We wanted to speak to Stephen Barclay, Downing Street chief of staff. He’s the man – the government minister – we usually talk to. them around 8:30,” Kate said.
“He was so busy this morning, we don’t know why.”

She added: “The chair is there for you, Mr Barclay if you’d like to come and sit in it, we’d love to talk to you and hear all of your opinions.”
Presenter Ben then added, as he made a plea directly to the MP: “We’re going to force you to join because of course, without a doubt, our viewers and everyone at home will want to hear from you, especially today of all days.”
Mr Johnson released a statement to the House of Commons yesterday, where he began by coming out to defend staff who are working “extremely long hours” and “doing their best” to help the country between Covid pandemic.
