GMB viewers accuse Liz Truss of ‘laughing’ when Richard Madeley grilled her

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss appeared on Wednesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain as Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid interviewed her on a number of issues including the cost of living crisis.

GMB: Richard Madeley Grilled Liz Truss

Viewers of Good Morning Britain were unimpressed with Liz Truss’ appearance on Wednesday’s ITV breakfast show.

The secretary of state has been decried by host Richard Madeley about the cost of living crisis as well as Morad Tahbaz, an Anglo-American national who is being held in Iran.

Asked about Mr Tahbaz, the politician said: “It’s a very difficult situation and my heart goes out to Morad and his family.”

Referring to Roxanne Tahbaz, who was on GMB earlier on the show, Richard told Ms Truss: “You promised her!”

Ms Truss argued: “What I told her and her family was that we would secure his release home in Iran…”

Changing the subject to an increase in inflation, Richard and Susanna asked her what the Prime Minister was doing to tackle the problem.

“I know the Prime Minister is working very hard on what we can do to support,” she said as Susanna snarled: “Well, you hope so too!”

Laughing, Ms. Truss continued: “I couldn’t notify him before he was ready to announce.”

But some viewers were unimpressed with the Tory MP’s gentle response to some of Richard’s questions, as the father-of-two appeared quite frustrated with her responses.

On Twitter, one person wrote: “Glad you found it so funny Liz #GMB.”

Another said: “That’s right Truss…giggle, it’s funny anyway…”

And a third viewer asked: “@GMB Why is Liz Truss smiling when you tell her everyone needs help now? #GMB #OutOfTouch.”

The fourth person raged: “Why is Liz Truss smiling and smirking when challenged over such a serious agenda? The cost of living crisis is a very real issue and it makes me very angry because they didn’t do anything! They keep talking about what they ‘do’ but still not enough #gmb.”
