Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid was in tears this morning as the ITV program replayed a clip of Rebel Wilson’s BAFTA joke about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s much-publicized public affair.
The 42-year-old joked during Sunday’s awards ceremony after Will Smith, 53, won the Lead Actor award for his performance in King Richard as Richard Williams, the father of the tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.
Will was not present at the ceremony, so director Reinaldo Marcus Green accepted the award on his behalf.
Joking about Will’s win, the Pitch Perfect actress said she thinks “his best performance of the past year has been okay with all of his wife’s boyfriends”.
When the crowd groaned in response, she said, “Come on, he never showed up!”
Good Morning Britain replayed the clip during its Tuesday morning celebrity segment on its early morning show.
Hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley chatted about BAFTA with entertainment editor Andrew Arnold and played a clip to viewers of the cut joke during Sunday’s ceremony.
Susanna clearly cringed after the clip, saying: “It’s hard to make those jokes, isn’t it? You want to be sharp.”
Andrew replied, “That’s why I always turn them down.”
When Andrew detailed Rebel’s decision to buy a new home in the UK, Susanna asked if it was just to get “as far as possible” from Will Smith.
This comes after Will hit back at Rebel after she joked about his marriage, setting a consecutive record during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning.
The I Am Legend star insists “never had an affair” in her marriage, telling Gayle King: “Never. There has never been an affair in our marriage.”
The actor went on to say that he and Jada, 50, “talk about everything” to each other “and we’ve never surprised each other with anything.”
Will, who shares son Jaden, 23, and daughter Willow, 21, with Jada, says he doesn’t mind his marriage being the subject of discussion again.
He continued: “I decided that gossiping about my life could benefit everyone. I think chatting is the first stage to having a real conversation and maybe really discovering if some things in your heart are loving, or toxic. ”
Will and Jada caused a stir in June 2020 when August Alsina announced that he was in a relationship with Jada, who later confirmed that they were in a “love relationship”.
Good Morning Britain airs at 6am on weekdays on ITV.
