God of War: Ragnarok Dev assures fans that it will be released this year

A God of War: Ragnarok developer has assured fans that the game will definitely be released later this year.

To celebrate the four year anniversary of the last God of War game, Director Cory Barlog had released a video which said: “I just wish we could share it [Raganarok footage] with you, but it’s just not ready to be shown.”

That raised some concerns among fans that the game would face another delay, but after a fan asked Sony Santa Monica’s animation director Bruno Velazquez on Twitter, he simply said, “Ragnarok is coming this year.”

Originally slated for 2021, the game was delayed “to ensure Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” PlayStation said at the time.

However, some fans were skeptical as only a few minutes of the game were shared. When it delayed Ragnarok, Sony also said Horizon: Forbidden West would be out in 2021, but that didn’t happen.

Protagonist Kratos’ voice actor later revealed that he was partly to blame for Ragnarok’s delay, but said that after undergoing multiple surgeries in 2019, he had to undergo physical therapy and was therefore unable to work.

Ragnarok was announced for PlayStation 5 in September 2020 (and later confirmed for PS4 as well), and a year later a three-minute trailer was shared.

In our 2018 10/10 review of the original, IGN said, “The outstanding characters, world and combat of God of War combine to create an unforgettable adventure.”
