Goering man arrested on Worthing Tesco roof after stealing scratch cards

A man has been arrested on the roof of a Tesco Express store after breaking into and stealing scratch cards.

Police were alerted after a burglar alarm went off at the shop in Rectory Road, Worthing

Officers responded to the scene and were able to see a man inside the store “tampering” with the checkout area.

Sussex Police locked down the premises and called for additional resources, including the canine unit, before entering and scaling a ladder through an open attic hatch.

Once on the roof, they found the suspect and a Tesco bag full of scratch cards, which were recovered.

A 31-year-old man from Goering was arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on bail until October 17.

The incident happened around 2:09 a.m. on Monday, September 5.
