Goering residents win the biggest prize in the People’s Zip Code Lottery of all time

More than 700 Goering residents were announced as winners of the People’s Postcode Lottery, including 12 people who won £379,062 for every ticket they had.

About every tenth Göringer has won a prize.

Nicki Wiltshire, 53, who won more than £379,000, was left in disbelief when Jason Donovan surprised her on her doorstep.

She said: “My heart is beating. I just can’t put into words what that means. It means the world.

“I’ve had such a garbage year. My partner Joe lost his job so it was tough. I can help so many people now.

“I can take my dream holiday to South Africa. I can not wait. I’m so happy I need a pee.”

Wendy Vanderhoven, 59, was joined by husband Mark as she was told of her six-figure price tag.

She said: “Never in a million years did I think Jason Donovan would come knocking on my door with a huge check. It’s a nice Christmas present.”

Wendy is now planning to celebrate her 60th birthday in style next year, saying, “I would love to go on a cruise to Turkey, Greece and the Mediterranean.”

Avid caravanners Wendy and Mark said the six-figure win means they can travel more.

Mark said: “We can upgrade the trailer to a motor home and help our son with a deposit on a house. Playing was definitely worth it.”

Other people receiving checks for £379,062 include health worker Sally Wells, 48, granddad of four Ian Branch, 55, and retired Keith Coomber, 78.

Prize totals for the other people in the winning postcode area ranged from £14,816 to £44,448 depending on the number of tickets people had.

Lily Poland, 75, was joined by her daughter Michelle when she learned she had won.

Lily, who is originally from West Calder – a village in Scotland – said: “Oh my god I’m in shock.

“I came here when I was 19 for an adventure. I ended up staying when I fell in love with Peter, my husband. We have been in this zip code for over 40 years and brought our family here – it was a good zip code with lots of memories.”

People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador Jason Donovan said: “It was fantastic to surprise so many lucky winners by arriving at their doorstep and presenting them with a gold envelope and a giant check.

“The atmosphere was electric and I loved hearing everyone’s winning plans.

“Christmas definitely came early for Goering.”

At least 33 percent goes to charity.

Home Start Arun, Worthing and Adur is a charity that players have supported. Earlier this year it received £17,830 to provide practical and emotional support to families with young children to give them the best possible start in life.
