Tom and Julie Malone, the stars of Channel 4 show Gogglebox, shared a little travel update with fans on Friday as they headed to Dublin for a short break

Airport security can be an added stress when traveling, as Gogglebox stars The Malone Family found out on Friday.

Tom and Julie Malone took to Instagram as they headed to Dublin for the weekend to update their fans about an ironic item in Tom’s bag that led to them being stopped by Manchester Airport security.

The couple, who live in Manchester, traveled to Ireland for a short break over the weekend, just days after Tom celebrated his birthday on Tuesday.

As they set out on their trip, there was a slight delay when Tom – who is bald – was questioned by security about a curling iron in his bag.

“Guess who arrived at Manchester Airport because they had a curling iron in their pocket?” Tom told the couple’s followers on Instagram in a dry tone.

He added dryly, “They weren’t mine. God Almighty. They say, ‘Are those your curling irons?’ and I have to say ‘yes’ because apparently I packed my own bag.”

Giggling, Julie was dying to get back into holiday mode and come to Dublin – she looked around and said: “What are we looking for now? departure gate?”

“See you soon Dublin,” she added as TV critics signed off before boarding their flight.

Fans loved the couple’s mini update.

“Modern man! [laughing-face emoji] Have a nice break,” one quipped below the post, while another added, “classic lol.”

The Malone family – made up of mother Julie, father Tom Senior and son Shaun – have been Gogglebox favorites since they joined the Channel 4 show for season four in 2014.

The Manchester-based family is known for always flaunting an appetizing selection of snacks, but rarely ate them on screen.

Tom and Julie’s other son, Tom Junior, also previously appeared in the award-winning production alongside his family, but quit last year to pursue other opportunities.

The 26-year-old shared a snap of himself holding a sign that reads “Back to market. Attack me with any TV work,” the 26-year-old explained of his reasons for stepping off the couch in February 2021.

“So after six and a half years, it’s finally time to put down the remote and say goodbye to Gogglebox,” Tom Junior began in his caption.

“I loved every minute and am eternally grateful to Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for allowing me to be a part of the show. But new opportunities are knocking on the door and it’s time to explore them.”

He added: “I’m looking forward to enjoying the show as a viewer and not having to worry about saying something stupid. hp Don’t worry, my parents and brother will still be on the show to entertain you guys every Friday. Into the future.”
