Golden City of the Scorching Sun is getting a sequel project

The trauma keeps coming and it doesn’t stop coming.

It has been confirmed that the Made in Abyss anime series will get a sequel project, although it is still unclear when the project will be released.

During a special event for the series on January 15, it was revealed that a follow-up project for Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun has been greenlit and will begin development in the near future. It has not been confirmed if the project would be an adaptation of material following the events of the latest anime series, or if it would be a new exploration of the property through a compilation film or original story.

It has also not been announced when this sequel project might be released, although the anime is currently catching up with the manga’s source material except for a few chapters.

The announcement came too a post on the official website of the series and a promotional video recapitulating key moments from across the series and films released over the past few years. The video can be viewed in its entirety below.

The news follows the release of Golden City of the Scorching Sun earlier this year. The new series, released over four years after the conclusion of the series’ first season, continued the adventures of Riko, Reg and Nanachi as they ventured further into the abyss. By the end of the new series, they managed to enlist the help of a new ally in Faputa and prepare to travel to the final layers of the titular Abyss.

The original Made in Abyss anime series, its more recent sequel series, the compilation films, and Dawn of the Deep Soul can all be viewed at HiDive. For more information on the series, see the related articles below. Golden City of the Scorching Sun is getting a sequel project
