Gone Girl’s bloody lovemaking scene is just as meticulous as you’d expect from David Fincher

“Gone Girl” follows Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck), a teacher and bar owner who becomes the prime suspect in the sudden disappearance of his pregnant wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike). Outstandingly emphasized by Nick’s unsympathetic and clumsy behavior during press conferences and revelations about his secret extramarital affair, the film is a callback to the mediums. Media frenzy surrounding real-life wife killers in the 2000s. (Scott Peterson immediately comes to mind.)

But what’s different in “Gone Girl” is that Nick’s wife is not an innocent victim. Not only has Amy staged her own disappearance as part of a ruse to trap her husband for her planned death by committing suicide, she’s also manipulated her gullible ex-boyfriend, Desi. Collings (Neil Patrick Harris), gives her accommodation and then brutally slits his throat during intercourse. The scene was so unexpected and psychologically terrifying that if I had ever seen it as a child, I would probably have nightmares about it the same way I met them about the Norman Bates bathing scene.

In an interview with Vanity FairNeil Patrick Harris explained that filming the scene was a challenge because director David Fincher made him and Pike rehearse for two to three hours, and when they finally started filming, they had to come back after several times. He further explained:

“David Fincher wants us to do everything exactly the same way every time, so that when we fall on the bed, he wants to make sure we all fall on the bed in the exact same position every time. It’s not. . three o’clock on the dial and then twelve o’clock on the dial, but exactly two o’clock on the dial, so that when he edits it, he has many options.”
