Google Chat’s GPT rival fails with embarrassing first demo that drops $100 billion in value

GOOGLE’s ChatGPT rival was caught displaying incorrect information in its first-ever demo to the world.
A tweet It turns out that the company’s new Bard AI technology actually gave the wrong answer.
The AI assistant is asked, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old about?”
In his response, Bard says that JWST was used to capture the first-ever images of a planet outside of Earth’s solar system, or exoplanets.
Except that’s not right.
According to NASA, the first images of exoplanets were taken in 2004 by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory.
“This underscores the importance of a rigorous testing process, something we’re launching this week with our Trusted Tester program,” a Google spokesman said.
“We will combine external feedback with our own internal testing to ensure that Bard’s responses meet high standards of quality, certainty and realism in real-world information.”
Microsoft-backed ChatGPT has also been found spouting false details ever since it took the world by storm.
At an event in Paris, Google executives said the huge buzz surrounding ChatGPT hasn’t compelled it to challenge Bard.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it plans to integrate the technology into its Bing search engine.
Meanwhile, Google’s free service will be tested by a select group this week before it’s later unveiled to the general public.
“Obviously it’s a competitive market – we expect others to have their offerings as well,” said Senior Executive Prabhakar Raghavan.
“We have a roadmap well into the future, so there isn’t a specific event I would point to that happened quite recently that dramatically changed the course we are on.
“The most important thing for us is to hold a high bar of responsibility and deliver the result that our users trust us to deliver.”
Google parent company Alphabet lost $100 billion in market value on Wednesday.
