Google Chrome update makes BIG change that could upset Safari fans

The BATTLE of browsers is heating up.
In a blog post on Monday, Google claimed that Chrome’s latest update makes it faster than its major competitor, Safari, developed by Apple.
The pair have been fighting for years for the title of “top browser in the world,” with Chrome now having three times more users than Safari.
It looks like Google’s last software iteration, version M99, could widen the gap even further.
According to the search giant, engineers were able to “significantly increase” the speed of the browser “on all major platforms.”
It’s now 43 percent faster than it was about a year and a half ago, the team wrote, thanks to tweaks to the software’s code.
In fact, Chrome is now blazing fast and is the fastest browser on Apple’s latest Mac computers – 7% faster than Safari.
According to Google, their software has set a record of 300 points on Speedometera tool created by Apple to measure application performance.
The benchmark simulates the feeling of using a web application running on different systems to see how responsive the experience is.
“We drill down into every platform on which Chrome runs to provide the fastest possible experience,” Google wrote.
“We’re pleased to announce that in M99, Chrome on Mac achieved the highest score to date of any browser – 300 – in Apple’s Speedometer browser response benchmark.”
The M99 version also boosts the performance of Chrome on Android – Google’s own operating system that runs on billions of devices worldwide.
Fierce rivals Chrome and Safari are the world’s two most popular browsers, respectively.
Google’s software is loaded on any Android device while Safari is the default web app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
However, while Chrome is used by 2.65 billion people, Safari comes in second place in the world rankings with around 844 million users.
Apple’s pitch for Safari has always been based on the idea that it’s the best browser to use across its devices due to the app’s lightning-fast performance and seamless integration between extensions.
Google’s latest update casts doubt on that claim and may even tempt some Safari users to switch to Chrome.
However, most people are pretty stuck when it comes to their favorite browser, so don’t expect a mass exodus anytime soon.
