Google is shutting down another app – millions will be banned from it forever
GOOGLE is partially discontinuing one of its major projects that it started just a few years ago.
Duplex on the Web was intended to make life easier, allowing users to make bookings for things like movie tickets using their voice.

Google Assistant would fill in the details for you based on the details you already have stored in your Google Account and Chrome, like name and bank details.
But the tech giant is abandoning the idea just over three years after it was announced.
The feature will no longer work this month.
“Duplex on the web is deprecated and will no longer be supported as of December 2022,” says Google’s own support page.
“All automation features enabled by Duplex on the Web will no longer be supported after this date.”
Duplex on the Web was created as an extension of Google’s existing speech AI technology, which enabled a robotic voice to make phone bookings for you.
The voice used sounds eerily lifelike, so the person on the other end has no idea they’re not talking to an actual person.
This larger part of the duplex project is ongoing.

A Google spokesman said: TechCrunch: “As we continue to improve the Duplex experience, we’re responding to the feedback we’ve received from users and developers on how we can make it even better.
“By the end of this year, we will retire from Duplex on the Web and fully focus on making AI advancements on the Duplex voice technology that helps people the most every day.”
It’s not clear why Google decided to abandon duplex on the web.
But as TechCrunch reports, the AI project may have been too resource-intensive to build.
