Google is urging ALL drivers to check the Maps app now

GOOGLE is urging people to check their Google Maps today after the search giant rolled out a major software update.
In a blog post, the US search giant highlighted a number of handy new features that will be rolled out to its navigation app in the coming weeks.
There is now a more detailed map showing the locations of road signals like traffic lights and stop signs ahead.
In selected cities, Google provides additional information such as the shape and width of a street.
According to the company, the changes will help you “better understand where you are and reduce the chance of last-minute lane changes or missing a turn.”
Another update made available to users will make it easier to bypass unnecessary toll roads.
You will soon see the estimated toll price to your destination before you start navigating.
Maps achieves this using trusted information from local toll authorities.
Google said, “We look at factors such as the cost of using a toll pass or other payment methods, the day of the week, and the likely tolls at the specific time you’re going to cross them.”
If you’re not a fan of toll roads, Google will show you when a toll-free route is available.
You can also go into the app’s settings to avoid fully showing routes with toll roads.
To do this, tap on the three dots at the top right of your directions in Google Maps and select “Avoid tolls”.
Toll rates will be shown this month for users in the US, India, Japan and Indonesia on Android and iOS, with more countries coming soon.
The latest change introduced by Google makes it easier to access the navigation service on Apple gadgets.
For example, Apple Watch users will soon be able to get directions on Google Maps directly from their gadget.
This means they no longer have to start navigating from their iPhone, but instead do so via the Google Maps shortcut in the Apple Watch app.

Apple fans will soon be able to access Google Maps from the iPhone home screen via a new iOS widget.
The company said the updates will “help you plan your ride, save money and explore a new place”.
