A MUSIC was “dumbfounded” after discovering a luxury hotel in Cornwall shaped like an ejaculating penis.
Colin Peake couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted the oval-shaped Scarlet Hotel in Mawgan Porth while browsing on Google Maps.
The 44-year-old once performed at a nearby wedding and was told by a bewildered photographer of the hotel’s unusual contours.
Believing it was just a rumor, Colin jumped online and was shocked to discover the ‘”kn *b gag architecture” next to the shells which he said looked like “drip” came from the top.
The luxury spa and eco hotel, which costs up to £400 a night, was completed in 2009 by Devon-based architect Harrison Sutton.
It has gone on to be nominated for numerous awards over the years and won the Michelmores Building of the Year Award in 2009.
Colin, from St Austell, Cornwall, said: “I don’t understand how it got built to the point where the whole thing is a kn*b gag architecture.
“I think it’s hilarious, either they don’t know or they know and don’t tell anyone.
“I just thought it was weird that it won the award and nobody turned around and walked away ‘go on, this really looks like a penis with water droplets coming out of the end of it’.”
It was only after chatting with a photographer at a wedding last year that Colin learned of the unusual shape of the building.
Colin said: “I heard about this because I had a wedding gig with my band last summer. [but] it’s not at the Scarlet hotel.
“The photographer there told me about this, although I can’t remember how it came up in conversation.
“But she said ‘oh yeah, you see it on the map when you go into the hotel. It’s hilarious and nobody seems to notice it’.
“I thought ‘This can’t be true, she must be exaggerating.’ But I went out and looked up at it, and I was completely dumbfounded.”
It remains unclear whether the shape of the building was an incident of mistake or part of a costly and elaborate prank.
“This seems to have been done on purpose, and nobody seems to notice or care,” Colin said.
“If it’s an architectural joke, it’s amazing. It’s so big you can’t see it from the ground, you can only see it from the air. It’s just weird.”
Scarlet Hotel and Harrison Sutton both declined to comment.
