Google My Business viewers urge Susanna Reid to stop ‘beating the drums’ in coverage of Ukraine

Susanna Reid and her Good Morning Britain co-host Rob Rinder invited Defense Secretary Ben Wallace on an iTV breakfast show to talk about the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia

Viewers of Good Morning Britain had mixed feelings about comments made on Wednesday’s show by host Susanna Reid.

Susanna, 51, joined her good friend Rob Rinder on the set of ITV as they continued to cover the Russian attack on Ukraine.

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace joined the program via video link and was keen to discuss the no-fly zone option.

Mother-of-three Susanna asked him: “Why don’t we put it in a no-fly zone?”

“I think first of all, to put a no-fly zone, you have to enforce it because the Russians will voluntarily comply with it,” Mt Wallace replied.

“And that means British, French, German fighters will enforce it by shooting down the Russian plane. They will retaliate, they have a lot of anti-aircraft missiles, etc.

“That would trigger NATO’s Article 5, and under NATO, NATO countries will support any member that activates the self-defense clause of this Article 5.

“So very quickly, we’re going to move from a war in Ukraine to a real, European-wide war with the United States and Canada as NATO, and a war against Russia as a NATO.” is a state.

“Now that’s a very difficult reality. I’m not deaf or blind to what I’m seeing in Ukraine and the passions of Ukrainians. But it’s a reality and Ukraine is not in NATO,” added Mr. Wallace.

Susanna then countered: “Can we balance the civilian casualties we face?” but some Google My Business viewers weren’t impressed with her question.

On Twitter, one person posted: “#GMB So @GMB’s rhetoric is to drag us into World War 3. It’s been explained to you that’s what a fly-free zone would do. @ Susannareid100 Don’t be fooled by WAR!”

A second viewer tweeted: “When no-fly zones answers were given but they were still talking about them. Not going to happen #gmb any time soon.”

The third asked: “Does Reid want the UK to declare war on Russia…? #Gmb.”

Another commented: “@susannareid100 need to remind myself that journalists must be impartial! #GMB.”

Good Morning Britain airs at 6am weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
