Google has pumped millions into the big idea, which doesn’t require a physical console like a PlayStation or Xbox.

Instead it relies on a wireless controller and Chromecast Stick – which costs around £90 – and your home Wi-Fi.

But gamers often complained about connection problems.

And it struggled to attract enough players.

Last year, Google announced that it plans to scrap the project and promised to issue refunds to disappointed players.

In November, the company began automatically giving affected users money back for equipment and any titles they purchased.

These include Stadia Controller, Founder’s Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages.

They also said that refunds would be given for all games and add-on purchases made through the Stadia Store.

However, you cannot claim subscription fees to access the service.

Google expects the majority of refunds to be sorted by today.

They have asked people not to contact customer service about this.

However, it’s worth keeping an eye out for a refund if you’re eligible and keeping an eye out for updates from Google.

“There may be delays if the original form of payment is no longer available and we request additional steps to complete the refund process,” the company warned.

“If we can’t process your refund to the original form of payment, we’ll email you to the Google Account used for the purchase.”

Google released one final game to mark Stadia’s sad demise, Worm Game, created by developers working on the platform.

And fortunately, the controller isn’t wasted either.
