GOP lawmakers’ wild claim about those who “hate gays” causes literal jaws

There was a stunning moment in the Florida House of Representatives this week after a Republican lawmaker spoke about who really hates the LGBTQ+ community.
“ISIS, the Taliban and Al Qaeda. These are the people who discriminate,” MP Jeff Holcomb said Monday. “Our terrorist enemies hate homosexuals more than we do.”
It’s not clear if he got it wrong or intended to put it that way, but he was speaking in support of a bill urging Congress to ban “savvy social engineering and experimentation” that “undermines” the military.
The implication that Republicans hate the gay community — but terrorists hate them even more — caused the audience to gasp, while Democrat Kelly Skidmore’s jaw literally dropped:
Holcomb, who is in the Navy Reservecontinued, citing the Navy’s creed: “I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all.”
