GPA returns to ‘Green Proposal’ change to all-Ireland football championship ahead of GAA Central Council vote in Parliament

THE Green Proposal looks set to go ahead after the Gaelic Players’ Association backed a proposal to change the structure of the All-Ireland SFC.
The GAA’s Central Council will decide later this week which of the two proposals will be put before Congress next month.
Proposition Red is essentially an updated version of Proposition B that was voted on at the Special Congress in October – key tweaks that helped the provincial finalists start the tournament in style. All-Ireland with points across the board and rewarded with more home games.
The GPA, led by Tom Parsons, voiced support for Proposition B last October but after consulting again with their membership, the players changed their mind.
The Green option retains the National Leagues as they were at the start of the season, followed by the provincial championships. But then there will be a round-robin all-Ireland championship, taking place in four groups of four based on provincial finalists and league standings.
A statement read: “The Gaelic Players Association will support the Green Proposal when discussions on a potential proposal on a Football Championship structure for next month’s GAA General Assembly take place at the Center Council. GAA this Saturday.”
