Graham Potter has explained why Marc Cucurella missed Albion’s game against Espanyol today.
And he said Albion remain “confident and relaxed” in their position with the player.
Cucurella, the subject of a recent unsuccessful £30m bid from Manchester City, was a notable absence as his side won 5-1 at Amex.
He is understood to have made a transfer request in recent days.
Potter said Cucurella has a little calf problem.
The Seagulls head coach said: “He had a feeling in his calf this week so I didn’t think it was the right thing to risk him today. We’ll see next week.”
Potter was sure that Cucurella would not have been given a hard time by the Albion fans if he had played.
He added: “I don’t think people would do that. I think people have a good feeling about Marc.
“They understand the speculation and things that happen when the transfer window is open.
“There’s not much to say about that. It’s just part of modern football.
“We’re confident and relaxed in our position and just looking forward to the start of the season and the preparation of the team.”
