Graham Potter praises Brighton’s Solly March

Graham Potter would love to give Solly March his first goal of the season.

But he is pleased with the way the Hailsham flyer gets into potential scoring positions from the outside.

Potter thought his No 7 had scored his first Premier League goal in almost two years as Albion drew level with Leicester on Sunday.

March headed in a Leandro Trossard cross at the far post.

The ball eventually went in from defender Luke Thomas and was officially awarded an own goal.

But it was a pivotal moment in getting the Seagulls level out of their first deficit of the season at the Amex.

Potter said: “He gets more opportunities in terms of scoring and assisting.

“He’s coming into more and more areas to be dangerous. I hope it’s his goal.”

At the bad news, Potter said, “Wasn’t it? That’s a shame.

“I think it looked like it was his goal.

“I’ll be blind and say it was his!”

March is arguably playing the best football of his career as Albion have made an outstanding start to the season.

Potter said: “He enjoys his football.

“He’s confident. He likes the role, he understands his role in the team and he has a good relationship with Joel (Veltman) and Pascal (Gross) on this side.

“When the team works well, the individuals on the team have a better chance of playing well.

“That’s how we see it and Solly is another great guy who wants to play and help the team. He does his best, takes responsibility.

“If you have that attitude, you have a chance to play at a high level.”

Albion’s Under-21 players are in attendance for the Papa John’s Trophy tonight (7.45pm) as they visit Colchester United.
