Grammy Awards: Host Trevor Noah alludes to Will Smith slap
Trevor Noah opened this year’s Grammy Awards by referring to the recent Oscars controversy between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
It’s been a hot topic of conversation since last weekend’s film awards ceremony, in which Smith, 53, slapped Rock, 57, onstage after a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, 50.
Smith stormed onto the stage after the joke and slapped Rock, returning to his seat shortly after. He then warned: “Get my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
The change has prompted comment from viewers and celebrity colleagues as it sparked outrage during a live broadcast of the Oscars ceremony last Sunday night (March 27).

And so it’s no surprise that it was mentioned in tonight’s Grammy Awards opening monologue, presented by the host, 38-year-old Noah.
The comedian referred to Smith’s warning in his monologue, telling the audience at tonight’s Grammy Awards: “We’re going to keep people’s names out of our mouths.”
The Oscars incident occurred after Rock – a guest host at that ceremony – joked about Pinkett Smith looking like GI Jane.

It was soon reported that Rock had chosen not to report it to the police, even though officers were said to be “prepared” to act.
A producer on the show said that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) would arrest Smith, if Rock decided to press charges against the actor.
Will Packer, 47, talked about what happened behind the scenes in a recent interview with ABC NewsAllegedly that the melee was called a “battery battery” by police.

Rock broke his silence about the incident at a recent indie gig in Boston – just days after he was slapped live on stage at the Oscars last weekend.
He said, “I’m still processing what happened. I’ll talk about it at some point. It’s going to be serious. It’s going to be funny, but right now I’m going to tell some jokes. . [at this comedy show]. “
