Kanye West and Foo Fighters were the early winners of the Grammy Awards tonight – as comedians rushed to joke about Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap.

The Foo Fighters – who recently tragically lost bandmate Taylor Hawkins – were honored with a slew of awards at this year’s ceremony, including Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album for Medicine at Midnight.

Given the recent news, the band were understandably not there to accept their award. A tribute to the late drummer is expected to take place during today’s ceremony, which begins shortly.

Elsewhere, Kanye West also received an award tonight when he scooped the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his track Hurricane. Tyler the Creator won Best Rap Album for “Call Me If You Get Lost.”

Comedian Nate Bargatze arrived at the ceremony wearing a helmet as jokes about Will Smith’s Oscar win began.

“Stay in your seats and keep your hands to yourself,” joked host LeVar Burton.

Nate then replied, “You said comedians now have to wear these at awards shows during the prank part. It doesn’t even cover your face, I guess it just focuses on where you would hit me.”

He later removed his helmet before adding, “Okay, that’s stupid,” before presenting the Best Spoken Word album.

There were also wins for Olivia Rodrigo, who received best pop solo performance for her track and driver’s license, and the singer who stunned in a gorgeous black and purple ensemble on the red carpet tonight.

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance went to Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett for “Love For Sale,” while HER also won their first prize of the night for “Fight For You,” which won in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category.
