‘Great to catch up’ – Harry opens up about the couple’s recent ‘secret’ visit to the Queen

Duke of Sussex Harry said the Queen was “in great shape” during their last meeting, but added he wanted to make sure she was “protected” and had “the right people around her”.

He and his wife Meghan were visiting the monarch and met with the Prince of Wales in Windsor on Thursday after flying in from their home in the US before traveling on to The Hague in the Netherlands for the Invictus Games.

It’s the first time the couple has been seen together in public this side of the Atlantic in two years.

Speaking to NBC’s Today Show about his meeting with the Queen, he said: “She was great to be with, just so nice to see her, she’s in great shape.

“She always has a great sense of humor for me and I just make sure she’s protected and has the right people around her.

“Both Meghan and I had tea with her so it was really nice to meet her.”

It comes days before the monarch’s 96th birthday on Thursday and just over a year after the funeral of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Harry said: “Home for me is in the States for now and it feels that way.

“We were welcomed with open arms and have such a great community in Santa Barbara.”

The couple relocated to Montecito, California following their decision to step down as senior royals in 2020 and said they want a new life of personal and financial freedom

Harry flew back from California without the then heavily pregnant Meghan to attend his grandfather’s funeral in Windsor in April 2021.

He also returned to the UK to unveil the statue of his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales with his brother, the Duke of Cambridge, on July 1, 2021.
