Greg Luer scores on his return for Eastbourne Borough

Greg Luer is back in action – and Eastbourne Borough is delighted to see him.

The fit forward scored late in a 4-2 win at Concord Rangers in the Vanarama National League South.

It was his first game since suffering a hamstring injury in the 4-3 defeat by Bath City last season.

There could be more to come with the tough league trip to Dartford tomorrow or Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Worthing.

But Borough will take a cautious approach to one of their prized assets.

Jake Hutchinson, Shiloh Remy and Jaden Perez also finished.

Then Luer went through to round out the win.

Borough boss Danny Bloor said: “Greg Luer is arguably one of the best players in the league in my opinion.

“We had him for the first game when we beat Oxford and we had him for a little over a half against Bath and we were 3-1 up.

“This was the first time he had returned and I couldn’t praise him enough.

“We had envisioned him as a center forward to replace Charley Kendall (who joined Lincoln).

“We missed him. Others have stepped onto the plate, notably Jake Hutchinson, but it’s nice to have Greg back in the equation. We will build it up.

“We don’t want to rush things, but it’s great to have him with us.”

The borough is still missing key players in Chris Whelpdale, Charlie Walker and Alex Wynter.

Bloor said: “It’s a really tough place and we’re very happy to walk away with a comfortable win.

“A fair result would probably have been 7-2 or 8-2.

“Jake Hutchinson could easily have had a few more and Greg Luer scored and should have scored a hat-trick by his own admission.”

Worthing remain unbeaten after a 1-1 draw at Hemel Hempstead.

The result ended their perfect run from home after four wins, but boss Adam Hinshelwood was happy with much of what he saw.

He said: “We probably played our best game of the season.

“Just couldn’t find a cutting edge in front of goal.”

Ollie Pearce equalized in the last 20 minutes.
