Greggs is closing all UK branches on the day of the Queen’s funeral

GREGGS has announced it will close shops across the country on the day of the Queen’s funeral to allow staff to take the bank holiday off.

The bakery chain confirmed it would close on Monday September 19 – and made the decision to allow staff to pay their respects.

In a message posted on his social media pages, Greggs wrote: “In order to give our colleagues the opportunity to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Greggs’ business will be closed on Monday 19th March.

“A small number of our shops operated by our franchise partners can remain open. Thank you for your understanding.”

Stores run by Greggs – like typical high street branches – will mostly close.

Those that may remain open are operated by franchise partners and include Greggs locations at Moto service stations and Euro-Garage service stations.

Greggs’ announcement follows McDonald’s, which also confirmed it will be mostly closed due to the Queen’s funeral. Greggs is closing all UK branches on the day of the Queen’s funeral
