Rockstar has provided more details on GTA Online’s new Career Builder tool, which will allow new players to join the game more smoothly on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Revealed alongside pre-loads for new console versions going live, Career Builder effectively allows players to start a new Online account with a number of perks that would otherwise have can take considerable time (or some real life money) to unlock, keeping them on something of a par with existing players. It is only available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.
Career Builder offers players a choice of business assets, vehicles, weapons, and extra in-game currency from the start of the game. Your first choice will be to choose one of four career paths in the multiplayer game: Racer, Executive, Nightclub Owner, or Gunner.
After choosing one, the player is granted $4 million in in-game currency to purchase a range of upgraded or non-upgraded assets, vehicles, and weapons. That $1 million in cash can be carried with you into the game if you wish, but $3 million has to be spent to start the upgrade.
Of course, this option is open to anyone opening a new version of GTA Online on their new-gen console, meaning you can skip the profile on the last-gen version of the game if you want. However, as previously confirmed by Rockstar, one-time GTA Online profile transfers will be available from March 15.
There is one important point to note about file transfers. While in-game currency earned by playing GTA Online can be transferred from any platform to any platform, In-game cash purchased with real-life money can only be transferred within a console family – ie PS4 to PS5.
Those who choose to include a character will receive “a fully converted Karin S95 by the experts at Hao’s Special Works, along with a Hao’s Special Work Racing Outfit and a new Chameleon paint can be used on all vehicles.” Hao’s Special Works is a new addition to Los Santos Car Encounters, offering vehicle upgrades and in-game events.
We’ve confirmed today that the new standalone GTA 5 and GTA Online won’t be offered as free PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades, but they’ll launch at a substantial discount – and Live. The route will be completely free on PS5 for three months.
