TEACHINGS are an integral part of Cult of the Lamb as they determine what your followers believe and what you can do in your cult.

While weapons and curses are random, your choice of doctrine determines which rituals you learn to perform.

Here’s our list of the best Doctrines to hit if you want to battle your way through the game.

afterlife teaching

Beliefs about the afterlife drive a lot of what your cult members want to do in this world.

Here are the choices we recommend:

1A: The need for sacrifice

Unlocks the Faith in Sacrifice trait. With this choice, each time you sacrifice a cultist, your cultists gain 20 faith.

You want your cultists to happily sacrifice their lives for the cause.

Sacrificing high-level cultists is the fastest way to build your power and unlock stronger and faster weapons.

While belief in the afterlife has the benefit of leaving cultists struggling to survive, poop shoveling negates many of the good effects.

2A: Resurrections

Allows you to perform a ritual where you bring a dead follower back to life.

Towards the end of the game, you’ll be glad you made that choice, as you can quickly recruit new followers.

While Faith is a good bonus, there are other ways to achieve this, making Resurrection the absolute winner here.

3B: Only the good die young

All followers gain the Die Well Young trait and gain 10 Faith when an Elder is Sacrificed, Murdered, or Consumed. But they lose 20 faith when an elder dies of natural causes.

This works well with the need for sacrifice as killing your elders results in big gains overall.

Keeping elders alive can be difficult, and faith can be won in other ways.

Just make sure you complete the sacrifice before they die of old age to get the most benefit.

4B: Good diggers

Unlocks the Graves building. Gain 2 Faith when followers mourn in Graves.

It’s a quick and easy way to replenish your followers’ trust in times of need.

Also, your followers will produce more than enough poop to keep your soils fertile.

Doctrine of Food and Nourishment

This doctrine describes your followers’ relationship with food.

Here is our pick from the options.

1A: Fixed

Unlocks the Feast ritual where you throw a big feast, restore hunger and gain 25 Faith.

While fasting requires fewer resources than feasting, the benefits are too good to pass up.

While their hunger doesn’t drop, all the non-eating will put your cultists in a bad mood.

Feasting is also good for feeding starving followers in a pinch and restores faith.

2B: Grass Eater

All pets gain the Grass Eater trait and no longer lose faith when eating a grass meal.

While followers die and you can return them to the pack, you’ll encounter far more grass than your allies’ corpses.

When food resources are scarce, not losing followers because you told them to stock up on weed is crucial to success.

3B: Fishing

Perform a ritual that increases your chances of catching special fish. You also catch twice as many fish. Lasts two days.

Plants are already growing pretty fast, so you won’t be able to harvest many even if you select them.

Fishing not only gives you better fish, but double the amount. A blessing to accompany all the festivals you have.

4A: Mushrooms encouraged

All cult members gain the Substances Encouraged trait. Gain 20 Faith when performing the brainwashing ritual.

Drugs are bad, but in Cult of the Lamb, psychedelic mushrooms are downright groovy.

Brainwashing allows you to do whatever you want without losing followers or faith.

You should not live your life as if it is free from negative consequences, but in this game it is actively encouraged!

The power that comes with being judge, jury and executioner; You now decide what punishment is appropriate for the crime.

Here are our recommended options.

1B: Ascending Follower

Perform a ritual in your temple that allows you to raise a devotee’s spirit to a higher plane of existence. All followers gain loyalty.

While murder may sound good, only you will be left to pick up the pieces.

The only benefit you get from killing is the chunks of meat left behind, and if you’ve followed our guide you should already be drowning in the grass.

Ascension is like murder, except you get loyalty instead of meat. The healthier choice.

2B: Marriages

Perform a ritual in your temple so you can marry one of your followers. Gain 30 Faith.

Watching people fight to the death can be good for entertainment, as the saying goes, “Make Love Not War.”

Marriage increases loyalty, and kissing your spouse will further increase their faith.

What would a cult be without a little bigamy? Add some brainwashing mushrooms to the mix and your spouses won’t even be upset that you’ve added another one to your sacred union.

3B: Loyalty Enforcer

Perform a ritual in your temple where you appoint a follower as your Loyalty Enforcer tasked with patrolling the cult and increasing the loyalty of your followers.

The further you advance in the cult, the more gold you get, especially if you have a good hand at Knucklebones.

Money can buy many things, but loyalty is not one of them.

Having someone buzz around and increasing the loyalty of your followers can be a huge boon.

4B: Freedom Above All

freedom above all. Every day that starts with no one in jail, you get +10 Faith.

You may be the leader of a repressive brainwashing cult, but you are not monster are you?

If your followers maintain good loyalty and faith, there is no reason for them to disagree and be thrown in jail.

Choosing liberty is the same as choosing free belief if you keep your subjects in mind.

Doctrine of Work and Worship

This doctrine is important because it controls how hard your followers will work to build your base.

Here’s what we recommend.

1B: Ritual of Enlightenment

Perform a ritual in your temple that temporarily increases the speed of devotion generation in your shrine by 20% for 3 days.

You probably won’t be building multiple buildings at once, making the first option a bit pointless.

However, enlightenment is practical and generates devotion and allows you to unlock new buildings faster.

2A: Inspire

Inspire a follower to significantly increase their loyalty. Replaces the Bless action.

As in real life, a large loyalty boost is much more beneficial than a small job boost.

I think some chefs could take inspiration from the lamb.

3A: Loyal

All cult members gain the allegiance trait. Generate Devotion 15% faster.

While we also told you to sacrifice your followers to a tentacle monster, dedicating your followers to the cause is very beneficial in the early game.

As mentioned in the second choice, it’s nice to have things done quickly, but fully devoted followers are better.

4A: Holy Day

Perform a ritual in your temple and declare a day of rest. Your followers will not work that day and will get +80 Faith.

Maybe all of these choices make us seem soft, but trust us, having loyal, devoted, and loyal followers is worth the reduction in work.

Building a cult is a marathon, not a sprint. It is far better to take things slowly than to deal with a revolt.

Possession Choices

Humans like their stuff and cultists too. Here are our recommendations.

They say possessions are 9/10 of the law, so it makes sense that you get that part of your doctrine right. Here are your choices.

1B: Bribes

Unlocks the Bribe Followers action. Bribe a follower with 3x gold to increase their loyalty.

As we mentioned before, loyalty is one of the best attributes in the game and it’s good to win.

Although the money seems nice, it is a small amount that must be extorted from each individually.

Bribes are a quick way to quell any cultists who look like they’re about to change cloaks.

2B: Devotee

All cult members gain the devotee trait. Gain more faith by preaching a sermon.

While you will build a lot in the beginning, it still takes time to build anything.

However, sermons are a simple act that you should do daily with good results.

3B: Fake idols

All cult members gain the Fake Idols trait. Gain more faith when you place a decoration building.

Houses can take a long time to build, and depending on how many followers you have, you only need a limited number.

Similar to simulation games like Two Point Campus, the more decorations, the better.

Making that choice is just more faith overall.

4B: Enrichment

Perform a ritual in your temple where all followers will donate gold to you.

While we usually recommend loyalty to gold, this one is too good to pass up.

It works well with our mushroom friends as brainwashed cultists don’t mind handing over their money.
