Guild Wars 2 Improved Jade Sea rewards, WvW updates, DX11 upgrade and new player content

ArenaNet will provide an update on the near future of Guild Wars 2with updates on the Battle for the Jade Sea, the status of the WvW restructuring, testing new player improvements and an update on the DirectX 11 upgrade.

end of the dragons was the culmination of 10 years of storytelling through content and expansions, so the team wanted to create the final boss encounter in end of the dragons to be what they call “more challenging than most of our existing open-world experiences.” The team has optimized the experience to help players complete it. At the beginning of March, the completion rate for the encounter was around 15%. Lately it’s around 60%, which they feel is consistent with most existing bosses and encounters in the world, albeit made more challenging. However, they will continue to look at player data to see if further adjustments need to be made for this encounter.

Feedback on encounter rewards of this type, specifically how difficult this was made to be, we’re not nearly as robust enough for the amount of challenge and time it takes. So they update the loot tables, remove junk, and add a Hero’s Choice Chest to complete it.

Reorganizing World vs. World, the last update introduced a queuing bug that put some players at the end of the queue. They’re working to figure out the cause, but other than that, the focus of RvR is shifting to alliances, allowing guilds to find each other, and rewards.

While DirectX 11 support runs as an opt-in beta, starting May 10th, DirectX 11 will be enabled by default for all new accounts. Existing players will not be automatically signed in at this time, but they plan to end support for Directx 9 at some point.

With a planned launch on Steam later this year, they are testing new player enhancements to prepare for growth and retention of new players. Not many details are available yet on how they will do this by changing the experience for new players. They attempted to overhaul the new player experience in 2014, with admittedly mixed results, and some of their thinking might undo some of those changes.
