BIA lovers rejoiced when Guinness announced that it was opening a new £73 million tourist attraction in the UK.
Dubbed ‘Guinness at Old Brewer’s Yard’, the Irish brewery is opening a microbrewery and restaurant in Covent Garden in the fall of 2023.
Similar to Dublin Sights of the Guinness Storehouse, visitors will be able to take tours of the 50,000-square-foot site to learn about stout and its history from beer experts.
Better yet, visitors will have the chance to try a variety of new beers – some of which will be limited edition and only available at the London site.
There will be a covered courtyard event space open to the local community as well as a glass-roofed restaurant for diners to enjoy.
Guests will also be able to purchase souvenirs at an on-site Guinness shop.
The site was formerly home to Woodyard Brewery, and Guinness bosses are keen to bring brewing back to London.
Dayalan Nayager, chief executive officer of Guinness’ parent company Diageo, said: “We are delighted to be creating a new home for Guinness in the heart of London.
“‘Guinness at Old Brewer’s Yard’ will strengthen London’s hospitable community and be a must-see for thousands of visitors to enjoy.”
Diageo is also planning to create a training program for aspiring bartenders and hoteliers, with the hope that 100 London students will graduate each year.
The site is expected to open next fall, subject to planning permission.
Exchequer Premier Rishi Sunak added: “This multi-million pound investment is an important vote of confidence for our capital.
“Three hundred years after brewing our first beer in Old Brewers Yard, it has been amazing to see Guinness breathe life into our hospitality and tourism industries, while creating jobs and opportunities. training in central London.”
Check out the amazing thing why the Guinness Factory Dublin only pays £45 a year in rent.
Attraction isn’t the only thing coming to London in the near future.
