Gwyneth Paltrow Responds to Ex Ben Affleck’s Marriage to Jennifer Lopez

Gwyneth Paltrow shared her thoughts on Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s wedding.

On Friday, Paltrow — who was on-and-off with Affleck for three years in the late ’90s — was asked by a fan during a Q&A on Instagram what she thought of Lopez and the “Justice League” actor’s surprise wedding in Las Vegas.

“Love!!! So romantic!!! Very happy for them,” Paltrow replied, according to People.

The Iron Man star also previously expressed her support for Affleck and Lopez’s reconciliation after the pair appeared at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2021 for the premiere of his movie The Last Duel. It was Affleck and Lopez’s first official appearance together since they called off their engagement in 2004.

“Okay, that’s cute,” Paltrow commented on a photo of the couple on the red carpet, posted to Instagram by Lopez’s stylist Mariel Haenn.

Affleck and Paltrow dated from 1997 to 2000, during which time they starred together in Shakespeare in Love (1998), which earned her a Best Actress Oscar, and again in Bounce (2000).

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2015, Paltrow revealed that her parents didn’t like her romance with Affleck.

“He’s super smart and really, really talented and he’s funny,” she said of her ex. “But he wasn’t in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend.”

But the Goop founder said she remains friends with Affleck, sharing, “I like him. I’m still friends with him.”

Paltrow also had kind words to say about Affleck’s then-wife, Jennifer Garner. “He’s settled down and his wife is amazing,” she said. “Not only is she beautiful, she is so warm and she cooks and is really into her kids. She’s really great. I really like her.”

Lopez and Affleck tied the knot on July 16 at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The intimate ceremony was reportedly attended by their child Emme, 14, and Affleck’s daughter, Seraphina, 13.

Their wedding “wasn’t entirely unplanned” as the couple had previously discussed a possible escape, a source told People.

“It was very important to them to hold a private ceremony. They didn’t want their wedding to be a spectacle,” the unnamed insider added. “The ceremony in Las Vegas was perfect. They both loved it. It was private and low key. That’s all they wanted.”

Lopez shared details and photos from her wedding via her On the JLo newsletter the day after they tied the knot.

“We made it. Love is beautiful. love is kind And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patiently,” she wrote, adding that their wedding “was exactly what we wanted.”
