A hairstylist horrified by a child’s horrific infestation of head lice says her thick hair was harboring a surprising amount of eggs after her family struggled at home to treat the problem.

Rachel Maroun, 21, shared a video on TikTok of the child’s infestation, revealing it took six months to build and nine hours to remove.

Rachel works as a head lice specialist and shares clips of her worst cases online.

A recent case was that of a 12-year-old girl whose family was struggling to treat the lice at home because her disability prevented her from combing.

The child became “overexcited,” so her parents decided to make the long journey to see Rachel and get professional treatment.

When she walked in, the hairstylist was overwhelmed by the massive infestation of lice crawling all over her scalp, neck and clothes.

“I was very surprised to see how many balls her thick hair housed,” Rachel said.

“Normally this case would have been better solved by shaving her hair, but for a 12-year-old who was basically a brunette Rapunzel, I didn’t want to take that away from her.

“I spent about three hours combing her hair at each appointment. I couldn’t even get to some spots on the first treatment – above her ear it was filled with eggs and it had caused the hair to be locked in a sticky situation.

“We took our time and just went with what she was comfortable with — and we did.”

In three appointments, each lasting three hours, the expert was finally able to remove all traces of lice from her head.

Rachel, from Sydney, Australia, filmed a clip of the huge infestation and shared the clip on TikTok, where it received 23 million views and 648,000 likes.

One user said, “I suddenly feel very itchy.”

“Poor girl, must have been so insanely happy that people like you are out there helping, can be hard to get rid of,” commented another person. [sic]

Another added: “Honestly the people who do what you do are heroes. One time my kids brought life home and I spent months trying to get rid of it.” [sic]

After removal, the child was delighted with the results.

Rachel said: “I could tell straight away she felt the difference.

“She was a little quiet during our first treatment, but when I removed the last egg from her hair she was smiling broadly and telling me all about her friends and how she would protect her hair in the future.

“It was worth all the hard work and pain — and her family was also super relieved to know that she was finally lice-free.”
