Halle Berry: Women shouldn’t feel pressured to have children

Halle Berry wants to encourage other women to defy societal pressure to have children after a certain age.

“If you’re in your twenties, own this. Own the Age of Discovery,” she said. “Deserve the era of real interest. Earn your time figuring out who you are.”

She later continued, “When you’re in your mid-thirties, don’t get bogged down in the thought that you have to have children by a certain age. You decide.”

Berry then pointed out that women should only have children because they want to, and not because of “old ideologies that women have to.”

“Only do it if you want to because you’re giving up a lot of your personal life for the development of other lives,” she said. “And maybe you’re not a woman who wants to do that. No harm, no foul, no judgement.”

Berry, who gave birth to her first child at 41, explained earlier in the article that she was challenging stereotypes about women and aging and that at 56 she felt she was in her “best shape”.

“I have the most to offer. I have no more gaps to fill,” she said. “I am firm in my femininity.”

Berry has spoken about her experiences as a mother on numerous occasions.
