Halsey has shared her heartbreak following the death of her dog, describing the time since his death as “the worst week of my life.”
The 27-year-old pop singer, who uses she/she pronouns, urged her followers to “love your pets every single second” in a lengthy post on Instagram.
Halsey said Jagger died at the age of five from myelomalacia, a condition related to the softening of the spinal cord that can cause paralysis.
The singer, who has a son with music producer Alev Aydin, adopted the dog in 2017.
Halsey wrote: “It was the worst week of my life. Before I had a dog of my own, I would hear people mourn the loss of their pets and think, “It’s just a dog…” Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
“I got Jagger when he was just a few weeks old. Sometimes I thought about him dying. how would it feel
“Well, by then he’d be old and rickety and grumpy. We spent the last few years gifting him extra ice cream and lazy days in the sun, which he loved when he was too old to walk in circles.”
Halsey said they feared his death “immensely” but were “at peace” with the fact that they thought they would have many more years together.
However, the singer added: “Unfortunately, that’s not what happened with us. Jagger was 5 years old and yesterday we lost him to a progressive condition called myelomalacia.

“It’s sudden and unusual and unfair with a disastrous prognosis.
“Within 3 days my beautiful little boy went from chasing imaginary birds in the garden and lying on my lap and listening to the sounds of Sesame Street to a paralysis that was spreading through his body every hour.
“It was sudden and shocking and I haven’t even really processed it.”
Finneas O’Connell, Hailey Bieber and Australian singer and YouTuber Troye Sivan were among those who offered their condolences.
Halsey also responded to suggestions that they shouldn’t be so upset about losing a pet.
“If you’re reading this and you don’t have a pet, you might be thinking, ‘It’s just a dog.’ Like I may have done before,” they said.
“But I can tell you that you are wrong. So damn wrong. It’s the deepest loss I’ve ever felt. Like missing a vital appendage.
“Every single second of my day that once revolved around his little habits and routines is now just filled with emptiness and stillness.
“If you loved Jagger along with me, thank you for giving him the best life the best boy could ever have.”
Halsey, whose hits include “Without Me” and “Nightmare,” and Aydin welcomed their son, Ender, in July 2021.
