Alec Baldwin opens in first interview since fatal shooting

The husband of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was tragically killed on the set of Rust, criticized Alec Baldwin for not being responsible for her death.

Matt Hutchins said the Hollywood star’s actions were “absurd” and admitted that he felt “very angry” to see him speak about Halyna’s death in public after he held the gun that left her love.

Halyna, 42, was killed on the set of Journey to the West last October after an incident in which a prop gun that Alec, 63, was holding in his hand, was ejected.

After the incident, Alec gave an interview to the American network ABC and said he felt sad, but not guilty.

He claimed he “couldn’t say who” was responsible for her death.

Now, in a conversation with NBC’s Today show, Matt opened up about the remarks.

He told the presenter: “Looking at him I just feel angry.

Alec Baldwin Has Said He Was Not Responsible For Halyna Hutchins’ Death

“I was furious to see him talking about her death publicly in such detail and then disclaiming responsibility after describing her killing.

“The idea that the person holding the gun causes it to fire without a response is absurd to me.”

Matt’s words come as Alec prepares to fight several lawsuits against him in the wake of the incident.

The cases are being brought up by screenwriter Mamie Mitchell, head of lighting Serge Svetnoy as well as Halyna’s family.

According to the attorneys, the actor pointed a prop gun at the cameraman while preparing to shoot a scene where he discharges electricity.

It left Halyna dead and also injured the film’s director, Joel Souza. Joel was shot in the shoulder and taken to the hospital before being discharged.

Alec claimed that while he was the one holding the gun, it exploded without him pulling the trigger.

And Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told Vanity Fair that she reviewed the actor’s claim that he didn’t pull the trigger and launched an informal investigation of her own to examine Baldwin’s claim that he only retracted the gun’s hammer. before it explodes.

“You can pull the hammer back without actually pulling the trigger and without actually locking it,” she said.

“So you pull it backwards partially, it doesn’t lock, and then if you let go of it, the firing pin could hit the bullet’s primer.”

“I don’t know too much about guns, certainly not about revolvers from the 1850s. So when I first heard that, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s crazy’.”

Matt went on to say that there were “multiple parties responsible” for his wife’s death.

He added: “Gun safety wasn’t the only issue on that set, there were standards that weren’t practiced.

“There are many responsible parties.”
