Durham’s Daniel Huszar used cheap B&M wallpaper at just £9.99 to create a stunning wall covering in his previously ‘cold’ living room – and he’s delighted with the results

Renovating your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune – in fact, you’d be surprised at how much money you can save by acquiring a home DIY work yourself.

Visiting cheap dealers also helps, as Daniel Huszar discovered when making his decision open his lounge.

The 30-year-old used cheap wallpaper from B&M which cost just £9.99 to create a stunning wall of paneling – and he’s delighted with the results.

The entire transformation cost Daniel, who lives in Durham and works in Quality Assurance, just £13.

Daniel was inspired to redesign his lounge after spotting some wallpaper covering ideas Facebook and decided to replicate this to bring his “cold” living room to life.

He told the money-saving Facebook group DIY on a budget UK : “I rearranged the lounge, rearranged the TV and measured the distance between the frames.

“I then started stretching the paper, using two and a half widths.

“The wallpaper was from B&M, it’s called ‘Wooden Slats Wallpaper’ and cost £9.99 for a roll, which was more than enough for the function.

“The wallpaper paste mix was £2.99 so the total cost of creating the feature was less than £13.”

Daniel said the whole job took about an hour and a half – although he had never installed wallpaper himself.

He started by holding a roll of wallpaper against the top of the wall and then letting it fall down so he knew what size he needed.

“I cut that to size and then taped the paper and hung it on the wall,” he said.

“I was just playing around with the paper until it was right and fit seamlessly.

“One tip for beginners would be to get a paper that doesn’t have difficult matches, as that would have been much more difficult.

“At first I was apprehensive as I had never wallpapered before.

“But once I took the plunge and did the first strip, I thought, ‘I can actually do this!’

“I really love the wall and am proud that I made it myself. It makes the space feel so much warmer, with a feature and focus, rather than just plain walls with a few pictures on them.”
