Queen’s Jubilee: Meghan and Prince Harry arrive at St. Paul’s

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have sat so they don’t appear in photos with other royals during the anniversary celebrations, it has been claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared from a window at Buckingham Palace ahead of the RAF flight during Trooping the Color last Thursday and at St Paul’s Cathedral the following day.

However, during the latter event, they were taken across the aisle to join other senior members of the firm, including Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The couples did not appear to acknowledge each other or exchange eye contact.

On Saturday, the Sussexes hosted a first birthday party for their daughter Lilibet while the Cambridges visited Cardiff Castle.

Harry and Meghan quickly flew back to the US before the holiday celebrations wrapped up on Sunday.

That Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden has speculated that a special effort was made to prevent the couple – who stepped down as working royals in 2020 – from showing up with the family.

Speaking to the newspaper’s royal talk show Palace Confidential, he said Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie may have been asked to remain in their seats at the end of the service in the cathedral.

This would prevent Harry and Meghan from catching up with senior royals during the farewell procession – and avoid being featured in awkward press photos, he added.

Mr Eden said: “There was a procession to leave the cathedral and that meant Harry and Meghan were way behind.

“They had to wait for everyone else in their line to go first so they couldn’t be photographed, they weren’t in the same shots as Prince Charles or the Cambridges.”

Royal correspondent and author Victoria Murphy also told the program the seating arrangement was “prearranged”.

“It’s hard not to take it as a sign if not the distance between the brothers — that physical distance between them in that seating chart,” she said.

Ms Murphy said there wasn’t a single photo of William and Harry together all weekend, other than wide angle shots at St Paul’s.

She added that in terms of the two brothers’ relationship at this point, it was “quite revealing” when despite everything, the landmark celebrations could have been a time to build a united front.

However, royal biographer Robert Hardman said the Sussexes’ reticence over the weekend will have gone “a long way towards normalizing their return” to the UK.
