England star Harry Maguire today celebrated his wedding to Fern Hawkins at a romantic French chateau – where guests will enjoy a pool party on Sunday.
Harry, 29, and Fern, 27, exchanged vows in front of Three Lions teammate Jordan Pickford and his wife Megan Davison, 26, who was the bridesmaid. The Man Utd captain arrived in Burgundy on a £50,000 private jet with around 30 family and friends.
They then set out to earn £250,000 at historic Chateau Varennes, once voted one of the top 10 wedding venues in the world. Joining the party was a beautician and hairstylist for Physio Fern, who had met her future husband when she was a teenager.
It is believed that the lovers wrote some of their own vows and chose a singer for the ceremony in the castle grounds. They had cocktails with loved ones on Friday night – and are planning a party in the venue’s outdoor pool before returning to the UK.
“Harry wanted everything to be perfect for her big day,” a source said. “It was for close family and friends and no expense was spared.”
Guests have been asked not to use cell phones when one of Fern’s friends takes the official wedding photos. They also received a thank you gift from the newlyweds, who both love France.
Harry was an England fan for Euro 2016 before his big break with Gareth Southgate’s side. And he proposed to Fern on February 17, 2018 in Paris.
Afterwards she said: “Harry made me the happiest girl in the world and asked me to marry him in the most perfect way.”
The Varennes property features a “Princess Suite”, 22 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms. The grounds have their own church as well as an orangery, described as one of the finest reception rooms in ‘All France’.
The couple tied the knot at a registry office in Crewe, Cheshire last month to issue them a British marriage certificate… but consider the French ceremony their “wedding day”.
The Maguires have two daughters, three-year-old Lillie Saint, who was born exactly nine months after England beat Columbia in the 2018 World Cup on penalties, and two-year-old Piper Rose.
Harry’s proud parents, Zoe and Alan, traveled from their home near Sheffield along with his brothers Laurence, 25, and Joe, 30.
Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown got married at Chateau Varennes in 2018.
