Florence Pugh has confirmed her split from boyfriend Zach Braff, saying the couple kept the news private because “it was a relationship everyone has an opinion on.”
Xford-born Pugh, who was Oscar-nominated for her role in Little Women, has been romantically linked to Braff since 2019.
The 26-year-old previously defended the 21-year age difference between her and Braff, 47, a filmmaker and actor best known for playing JD on TV medical comedy Scrubs.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Pugh spoke about the couple’s decision to “quietly” end their relationship, saying, “We tried to go through with this split without the world knowing because it was a relationship, too.” where everyone has an opinion.
“We just felt like something like this would really benefit us if millions of people didn’t tell us how lucky they are that we’re not together.
“So that’s what we did. I automatically get a lump in my throat when I talk about it.”
Next month, the Marvel and Midsommar star will star alongside singer Harry Styles in Don’t Worry Darling.
Directed by Olivia Wilde, the film is set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert and follows an unhappy housewife and her husband who harbor a dark secret.
Pugh plays housewife Alice, while former One Direction singer Styles, 28, stars in the psychological thriller as husband Jack.
A first-look trailer released in May sparked a reaction after giving a glimpse of the on-screen glimpse of the passionate on-screen relationship between the characters Pugh and Styles.

Pugh told Harper’s Bazaar, “If it boils down to your sex scenes … That’s not why we do it. That’s not why I’m in this industry.”
She acknowledged that Styles’ notoriety would likely play a role in discussions surrounding the film, but was aware that wouldn’t be her focus.
“Of course, by the very nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have those conversations,” she said.
“That’s just not what I’m going to discuss because (this movie is) bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.”
Pugh also opened up about how desperate she was to return to acting in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, comparing it to “being able to run away with the circus”.
She previously revealed she suffers from a medical condition called tracheomalacia, which can cause respiratory infections and meant she had to be extra careful during the peak of the pandemic.
Speaking about returning to work, she said: “I think one of the reasons for me is because I can see places, see people, make friends with people, fall in love with people and then go ahead and do it all over again. “
